PRESS RELEASE
Deadline approaches for Outdoor Film Festival:
The deadline for submissions to enter “VideOlympics” is Tuesday May 1, 2012.
VideOlympics is a film contest promoting outdoor activities on the Olympic Peninsula. The Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Club is hosting the contest. Over $1,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to the winners.
Submissions will be judged on technical merit, local interest, and stoke factor (how much it makes you want to get off the couch and get outdoors on the Olympic Peninsula).
“One of the great things about the Olympic Peninsula is the wide range of outdoor activities available within a relatively small area,” says Greg Halberg, event co-organizer. “We want submissions from a wide variety of sports. There is also no restriction on when the movie was made, so if you have an oldie but goodie we would like to see that also.”
All submissions must be in digital format and entered by May 1, 2011. Films can be submitted electronically to frank@nxnwsurf.com, by mail at HRWSC c/o NXNW 902 S Lincoln St Port Angeles WA, 98362 or in person at 902 S Lincoln St Port Angeles. The phone number is (360) 452-5144.
Judges for this year’s event include: Robert Chrestensen, producer and filmmaker specializing in nature films; Bruce Hattendorf, English Literature professor at Peninsula College and judge for Sequim’s Student Film Festival; and Danielle Lawrence, member of the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Club and former film studies instructor at Kansai Gaidai University as well as a current judge for Sequim’s Student Film Festival.
Selected submissions will be shown at the VideOlympics Film Festival Saturday, May 12 at BarN9ne, 229 West First St at 7pm, where a “People’s Choice” award will also be given.
The event is sponsored by North by Northwest, Sound Bikes and Kayaks, Adventures through Kayaking, LibTech, the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Club, and BarN9ne.
