Careful What You Wish For

Careful what you wish for people. Due to the weather we were unable to get things done to start ski and snowboard school this weekend.  We have now rescheduled for the weekend of the 28th and 29th. If you need more info please call 360 452 5144

The lineup for the second annual “Second Saturday Series” of outdoor and adventure sports presentations benefiting Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Club has been released.

The events were a huge hit last year, and we hope to build on that success,” said event organizer Greg Halberg. “Most of the presentations have local ties. We really want to emphasize the outdoor recreation opportunities on the Peninsula and promote our local outdoor culture by both showing what is being done by local athletes as well as by inspiring presentations of what is happening around the globe.”

The Backcountry Film Festival promotes the work of grassroots filmmakers who tell compelling and entertaining stories of backcountry, non-motorized recreation and environmental preservation. This year’s winners include “Solitaire” by Sweetgrass Productions; “Chalk and Ski,” by Purple Orange; and “Breaking Trail,” by Powderwhores; and others.

February 11, 2012: FreeRider featuring Kyle Miller 7 pm BarN9ne 229 W. Front Street Port Angeles

Pacific Northwest Splitboard Mountaineer Kyle Miller will be on hand for the screening of the short film “FreeRider” chronicling his passion for his sport, his great love of the wilderness and mountain scenery, his ski bum lifestyle, his triumphs and disappointments, his pain and his joys, and his unyielding dedication towards fulfilling his riding dreams. In addition, he will speak about his trip with Jason Hummel into the Olympics where they skied the remote Olympic peaks and the Valhalla’s.

Local backcountry enthusiasts Gary Holmquist and friends will show some of the outstanding backcountry skiing routes and trips that exist 17 miles from sea level in the Hurricane Ridge area.

April 14, 2012 Avalanche! 7 pm BarN9ne 229 W. Front Street Port Angeles

Seattle based backcountry skiers and owner of the “Turns-All-Year” website Marcus and Dave Otter have a candid discussion of the lessons learned from an avalanche incident in which they were involved.
