Here is the insider info on the Hurricane Ridge Road. They call it Hurricane for a reason and wind is the enemy here. The following info will help get you to the Ridge. If the forecast is for high wind with snow there is a good chance the road will not open or could close early. Click here for current wind and weather at the Ridge and here for the current forecast. Anything 25 to 30 with a south angle is not good.
Starting Dec.17th the road will be open 7 days a week weather permitting. The park has a road hotline with recorded info on road conditions 360 565 3131. New this year is the ONP Twitter feed Hopefully they are on top of the road opening time and status with it. Become a follower and see how well it works. A park entrance fee is required to access the Ridge. The cost is $15 per car for 1 to 7 days or $30 for the year
Also new this year is a regularly scheduled van service. Starting Dec. 17, a 12-passenger shuttle bus will leave twice a day Wednesday through Sunday from two Port Angeles locations: the Port Angeles Visitor Center, in front of The Landing mall at 121 E. Railroad Ave.; and the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St.
Shuttle vans will depart from the Railroad Avenue visitor center at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and will pick up passengers at the Vern Burton center at 9:05 a.m. and 1:05 p.m. before the 45-minute drive to the Ridge.
Vans will leave Hurricane Ridge at about 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.., Round-trip tickets are $10 per person. In addition, park entrance fees — $5 per person for those 16 years and older — will be required at the park entrance station near Heart O’ the Hills on Hurricane Ridge Road. Park and national public land entrance passes will be honored.
